How to Support Your Partner During the Pregnancy
No matter what choice your partner is considering or how you’re feeling, it’s critical to encourage your partner and offer your support. She needs you right now, and you being there for her will mean the world.
Here are some tips for supporting your partner:
- Actively listen to your partner. Active listening is all about truly hearing what your partner is saying without interjecting your own opinions or judgments. To actively listen, look at your partner without being distracted by your phone, TV, etc., and ask her follow-up questions that encourage her to go deeper.
- Share your feelings with care. If you don’t agree with your partner’s pregnancy decision or feelings, that’s okay. But it’s important to share your feelings and concerns with care, remembering that while your role in this pregnancy is essential, the decision about how to move forward is ultimately your partner’s choice.
- Be there for her. Your partner must attend doctor’s appointments and may need specific vitamins, foods, etc. You can show your support by being physically present with her and ensuring she has what she needs during pregnancy and beyond.
