Are you struggling emotionally after an abortion? If so, you’re not alone. While some women experience immediate relief after an abortion, many others face adverse mental health outcomes weeks, months, or even years later.
In fact, studies have shown that many women face depression, anxiety, substance abuse issues, and even PTSD symptoms after an abortion, especially if they felt coerced into getting an abortion.
While the emotional pain that can follow abortion feels never-ending and isolating, you are not alone in this. And there is hope.
At Peak Women’s Care, we understand what you’re going through and are here for you.

Tips for Managing Difficult Emotions
If you don’t feel ready to reach out, that’s okay. The healing journey is full of small steps. And by taking one small step at a time, you will eventually see hope on the horizon.
One small step you can take right now is journaling. Journaling is the act of writing down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences on paper.
When thoughts and feelings are in your head, they can quickly snowball and become difficult to manage. However, when you write them down, it helps you untangle them and ultimately work through them.
Here are some questions that can help you get started:
- What emotion am I struggling with most lately?
- What brings this emotion on the most? (Thinking about the past? Wishing I could change things? etc.)
- What helps me feel better? (Is what helps healthy or not?)
While journaling is an excellent first step, talking to someone about your feelings is an essential next step.
